Best iPhone Game Updates: ‘Real Racing 3’, ‘The Game of Life 2’, ‘My Time at Portia’, ‘AFK Arena’, and More

Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. With December just around the corner, we’re starting to see more winter updates roll in. There aren’t a whole ton of them yet, but I expect the pipes to really open from next week. For now, we’ve got a blend of interesting updates for you to dig into. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill you in on the things you might have missed. Let’s go for it!

FINAL FANTASY V, $17.99 Final Fantasy V is a great game and in general this is an amazing version of it. That said, it also a game with a lot more moving parts than its predecessors, and we’ve seen that reflected in some odd bugs. This update fixes a whole bunch of them while also making some useful adjustments to things like NPC walking speed to make them a little easier to catch. I’m sure we’ll be seeing more fixes as time goes on. Let’s hope Final Fantasy VI‘s Pixel Remaster comes out a little smoother.

MARVEL Realm of Champions, Free Some good stuff in the latest update for Marvel Realm of Champions. First up, a new Champion. It’s Forest Guardian, the chosen Champion of King Groot. There’s also a new mode in the form of the Solo Conquest, and a new Summoner’s Journey chapter titled Patriot Garrison. There’s a hub where events can be accessed from now, which should make things a little easier to find. There are some bug fixes and other improvements, naturally.

AFK Arena, Free The Best RPG For Busy You is back with another update, albeit one rather typical of what we see from this game on a regular basis. You’ve got a new hero, this time Mauler Thesku: The Serpent Charmer, complete with test play and Bountiful Trials event. A new season called Hunting Fields has started with some new tweaks and features, a new event called Pursuit of Fire, and more adventures and campaign chapters to dig into. Some balance adjustments, bug fixes, and performance improvements round things out.

Subway Surfers, Free Where are the Subway Surfers kids heading next? It seems they’re on their way to Venice Beach, where you can enjoy the famous sunshine and sandy beaches from your perch atop the rails. There’s a new surfer named Phoenix, a new Walkman Outfit for Dylan, a new board called the Beach Pop Board, and a lot of other goodies to shoot for. As always, you can collect Event Coins and spend them in the shop to get some nice rewards. I love that new board. It’s a Rocket-style Popsicle that somehow doesn’t melt! What sorcery is this?

Toon Blast, Free And this will serve nicely as our obligatory free-to-play matching puzzle game update for the week. It’s the usual Toon Blast affair, adding fifty levels along with a little story explanation to go with them. This time it’s apparently a Quiz Show episode? Are quiz shows still a thing in North America? Did they regain their popularity? I’m really out of touch these days with that level of pop culture in my home region. I mean, it’s not like daytime TV really makes the continental jump all that often. Well, I suppose it doesn’t matter much anyway. You have fifty new levels to play, and that is the main thing.

Real Racing 3, Free Now here’s a holiday update. After I put it in the opening paragraph, you would have expected there to be a lot of them. Well, that’s how it goes. Anyway, it’s what you would think a new Real Racing 3 update would be. New cars, new events, new seasons, and so on. You can earn cars like the Ferrari 812 Superfast, the Alfa Romeo 155 V6 TI, the Aston Martin V8 Vantage GT2, and more. There are also some new videos up in the Real Racing TV section, like always. Wait, what is holiday themed about this? The update notes just throw that out there but it’s not like there is a Christmas Tree-mobile or anything. Sigh.

My Time at Portia, $4.99 Mikhail rather likes this particular little slow life game. I haven’t played it very much yet, but I’ve heard good things. If you are like me, this update may serve as a good excuse to give it a go. There are twenty-eight sets of new outfits for characters and NPCs available, and a number of issues have been resolved. There are also some text optimizations, bug fixes, and a couple of UI changes. That all sounds pretty good to me, even if the new clothing choices are the main front-facing changes.

UNO!â„¢, Free Now this is more like it. A Christmas event is kicking off in UNO on December 1st. Two days from now, in case your calendar isn’t nearby. Decorate your Christmas house, log in to get special rewards including the Christmas Medal, and collect some new Christmas-themed decorations. What does any of this have to do with playing cards? I don’t know, it just does. Eat your UNO, Apollo.

The Game of Life 2, $2.99 The Game of Life 2, meanwhile, is heading for space. Not a holiday person, I guess. Not even a person at all, really. It’s a board game. The new Lunar Age world gives everything a cosmic coat of paint, seeing you progress from Moon Base to Biodomes to Alien Civilizations, all while dressed in six fancy new space-themed outfits. Get a cool job like Spaceship Pilot and save your money to buy a Space Station House. What would a house like that even look like? If you want to find out, you’ll have to pick up this new expansion. Seems like it costs a fiver, which is at least cheaper than a new edition of the board game.

Genshin Impact, Free The latest add-on to Genshin Impact is now available. Called Shadows Amidst Snowstorms, it is not in fact an adventure set in Winnipeg in January. But it does add a couple of new characters, a new Main Event, some new Story Quests and Hangout Events, plus new weapons, monsters, and more. I suppose I’ll give this one the highly coveted UMMSotW award for this week, as I suspect it will draw more of my attention than the rest of the choices.

That about wraps it up for last week’s significant updates. I’m sure I’ve missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I’ll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!
