Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. Some very cool stuff in this week’s updates, including Bloodstained, Cozy Grove, Roundguard, and more. I’ve gathered up some of my favorites and put them together for you to enjoy as you eat your breakfast Snickers or what-have-you. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill you in on the things you might have missed. Let’s go for it!
Bloodstained:RotN, $6.99 I am continually impressed by the quality of this port of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. It makes the Switch version look tragic by comparison, and it only keeps getting better. This update brings a few more goodies in the form of some free DLC. There’s the Bloodless character pack, the Boss Revenge mode, and a new pre-rendering feature that helps the game run even better. There are also some bug fixes and optimizations, as there tends to be. You might think I’d give this the coveted award, but I’m holding it for something special this time.
Disney Heroes: Battle Mode, Free Another update for Disney Heroes? Well, let’s see what kind of weird characters they’ve added this time around. I’m rarely disappointed in that regard. Let’s see… yes, we’ve got some odd ones this time. The Sheriff of Nottingham from Disney’s Robin Hood brings his wolfish cunning to the fray, and he’s joined by another dastardly villain: Darkwing Duck‘s Quackerjack! There’s also a Hero Refresh for Shank from Ralph Breaks the Internet. Bug fixes and improvements? You bet.
Candy Crush Soda Saga, Free Our obligatory free-to-play matching puzzle game update this week is Candy Crush again. But it’s the totally different Candy Crush Soda Saga, which I think we can agree is a fully distinct idea and not just a variation on the same old sandwich. As for what this update entails, it’s the usual business. You get some new levels, maybe some event stuff, and that’s about it. I have binged a free-to-play puzzler to the edge of its levels once before so I know some people will be happy to have this even if everyone else can’t quite understand it.
Subway Surfers, Free The kids are on the road again, and this time their destination is Paris. Wow, they’ve been there a few times. Who can blame them, though? Anyway, the new surfer is Alexandre, a stylish kid who will probably be a favorite for some players. There’s a new board to unlock, the vivid Paint Palette, and a new outfit for Rin. Join forces with Coco the mime and collect tokens to earn some cool rewards in the latest Season Hunt.
Tiny Tower, Free Hey ho, Tiny Tower is ten years old! Here’s a funny thing: the first time I came to TouchArcade as a reader, it was because of Tiny Tower. I don’t think I’ve told that to anyone before, but there it is. I used to love this game, but my interest faded out over time. But! But! There is a big anniversary update! It has a new customizable personal player house, a new airport with jobs to earn quicker coins, and some new parachute gifts. This has caused me to reinstall the game and try to grow my old tower once more. And here is where I fork over the coveted UMMSotW award for the week. Enjoy!
Pocket Build, $0.99 Pocket Build is always improving, and the latest update brings in some nice additions to the UI to make the game a lot easier to play. You can now rotate items in any direction! You can pop into first-person view and place or build items from the eye of someone living in the world. The new land builder will help you build your land super-fast. Oh okay, there are some new items too. Garden props, specifically. Tools, gnomes, the usual stuff. You know. There’s also an option to ride your horse in third-person mode, in case you want to get a cool view of your riding skills.
Cozy Grove, Ah, poor Cozy Grove. This is a really amazing update, but it had to lose to my silly sentimentality for Tiny Tower. Well, it could still win in your hearts, friends. This Summer Festival update adds in a critter-catching feature along with the critters to catch, new decorations and clothing, new photo standees, some new event NPCs, the ability to hug bears (do *not* do this in real life), a stone-skipping feature, some treasure maps, an animal-naming feature, and a whole lot more. If you want to see it all, just fire up the game and check it out yourself. It really is quite the update.
Taiko no Tatsujin Pop Tap Beat, All you really would want from a Taiko no Tatsujin update is, I think, more songs to play. And following that logic, this update is everything you would really want. It has ten more songs for you to tap along to. You see, Taiko is also celebrating an anniversary. It’s now twenty years old, and part of the celebration of that milestone is adding the song Todoroke! Taiko no Tatsujin to the game. Don’t worry, I’m sure you’ll find something to like in the other nine songs even if you aren’t feeling festive.
PAC-MAN Party Royale, Two Bandai Namco games?! I am spitting my drink. Absolutely spitting it. Liquid everywhere. What a mess, a terrible mess. Oh right, the update. There are new leagues in the battle arena. Battle like only Pac can and see if you can reach the Legendary rank. There’s also some changes to the save game system, adding support for up to three separate save game slots on one iCloud account. That should make it a bit easier on families who want to play their own files on the game. Nice, nice.
Roundguard, We’ll finish things up with a look at the big new update for Roundguard. The big point is the addition of the new hero, Sprig the Druid. She wields plant powers and can do some neat new tricks you’ll have fun taking advantage of. There are new quests and trinkets, new daily puzzles and weekly runs, and a giant list of fixes and improvements that you can check out on your own if you’re interested.
That about wraps it up for last week’s significant updates. I’m sure I’ve missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I’ll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!
